It’s not just taking everyday people into space that’s breaking new ground. The flight hangar we designed for this facility is the first LEED-certified flight hangar in the country—a big deal if you imagine cooling a space that big efficiently. The overall facility was designed to accommodate several very different activities: manufacturing spacecraft, performing test flights, and training future astronauts. With those three functions and the fact that this was the first private space-flight center taking the public into space, it’s safe to say this building type had no precedents.
