Real-world education in a state-of-the-art facility
With the number of large tractor trailers, school buses, and other critical diesel vehicles on the road in the valley, there is a huge need for diesel mechanics. Clovis West already had a robust automotive technical education program, and wanted to add a facility to specifically address that diesel-vehicle need. This building addition to their existing shop facilities includes classrooms, a hands-on shop, and a pit for learning front-end wheel alignments. We fit the building into the site so as to accommodate the generous turning requirements of very large vehicles, and designed a timeless building that integrates easily into the existing school. The pit is covered by a net when not in use to prevent distracted-teenager falls while those teenagers are learning a valuable trade they can take directly to the work world after high school.
