LEMOORE UNION H.S. – NEW ACADEMIC BUILDING ADDITION AND PLAZA
Paving the way to a better future
Lemoore High School’s gymnasium had reached almost a century in non-stop usage, a point where upgrades and retrofits did not make sense financially. Lemoore Union High School District decided to demolish it, and the adjoining home economics building, to make room for a new structure. The new academic building addition doubles the number of rooms of the two demolished buildings. It includes six classrooms, five labs, a choir room, teacher preparation rooms, restrooms, and support spaces. We pulled the front of the new academic building addition back 60’ from the footprint edge of the old gymnasium, creating a gracious new plaza that looks over a striking Lemoore Tigers mosaic on the east end of the building. Responding to the poor condition of the paving around Lemoore High School, we replaced old asphalt paths and plazas with concrete, leveling the walkways and creating better social spaces for students and upgraded the parking. Two new shade structures improve the experience in the senior courtyard on the north side of campus. The increased number of classrooms and means no more satellite campuses, and the school has flexibility to free up older classrooms to modernize them as needed.
